Veterans: In Your Honor

Unselfishly, you left you fathers and your mothers,
You left behind your sisters and your brothers.
Leaving your beloved children and wives,
You put on hold, your dreams—your lives.

On foreign soil, you found yourself planted
To fight for those whose freedom you granted.
Without your sacrifice, their cause would be lost
But you carried onward, no matter the cost.

Many horrors you had endured and seen.
Many faces had haunted your dreams.
You cheered as your enemies littered the ground;
You cried as your brothers fell all around.

When it was over, you all came back home,
Some were left with memories to face all alone;
Some found themselves in the company of friends
As their crosses cast shadows across the land.

Those who survived were forever scarred
Emotionally, physically, permanently marred.
Those who did not now sleep eternally
‘Neath the ground they had given their lives to keep free.

With a hand upon my heart, I feel
The pride and respect; my reverence is revealed
In the tears that now stream down my upturned face
As our flag waves above you, in her glory and grace.

Freedom was the gift that you unselfishly gave
Pain and death was the price that you ultimately paid.
Every day, I give my utmost admiration
To those who had fought to defend our nation.

Thanks for this R2 – wonderful!

And thank you to all our veterans, living and deceased, who sacrificed much to protect our freedom! Let us not squander what they fought for.

  • Pvblicvs says:

I agree, R2, and I can’t thank you enough. And, as John said, let’s not squander their sacrifices!

Good morning all, just a quick fly-over today.

Thanks to John and Pub for posting this for me. Appreciate it.

Azzie – this is for you. I have defended you on this site and it has probably cost me some friends. But when you go all political and P/C about a poem that honors ALL Vets, I can’t help but think that you deserve what you get here. This poem has nothing to do with the things that we discuss on a daily basis. Give it a rest, at least for one day. Please.

Gotta run. See you all soon!

  • God bless you Ronald Reagan:

Peace fails when we forget what we stand for. It fails when we forget that our Republic is based on firm principles, principles that have real meaning, that with them, we are the last, best hope of man on Earth; without them, we’re little more than the crust of a continent. Peace also fails when we forget to bring to the bargaining table God’s first intellectual gift to man: common sense. Common sense gives us a realistic knowledge of human beings and how they think, how they live in the world, what motivates them. Common sense tells us that man has magic in him, but also clay. Common sense can tell the difference between right and wrong. Common sense forgives error, but it always recognizes it to be error first.

“The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery . The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.

The Veterans Day National Committee also selects a number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances throughout the country. From stirring parades and ceremonies to military exhibits and tributes to distinguished veterans, these events serve as models for other communities to follow in planning their own observances.”

Naw, to most of us, “progressive == socialist” and “Obama == quintessential socialist”.

    How ya’ doing, New?
    _________________

Hey pvb – doing well, man. How bout you?

He’s not a socialist. He’s just like many liberals, me included, that don’t mind some tenets of socialism.

    That’s the truth.

    =============

    Seriously New?

    Really?

“some tenets” of socialism? Is that like being “kind of pregnant”?

You…and those who think like you in this respect…appear to live in a vacume regarding political history. Everybody knows it’s political taboo to say you’re a “socialist” in this country, so the left winks and nods and calls itself “progressive”.

All the while they pretend the history of the progressive movement in this country didn’t really happen and isn’t really based on Karl Marx’s theories. Yet the left’s actions over time are exact, albeit slow, reflections of Marxist principles.

Use whatever descriptor you want – Democrat, Progressive, Leftist, Liberal, Socislaist- I care not…Because they can all be summed up in one phrase, a phrase that was first made famouse by Marx himself.

“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”.

…yep, sounds like “progressivism” to me.

Wuttup peeps … I have to say i agree with everything that the report on the deficit entails .. ( well, what i read and saw of it ) ESpECIALLY , the defense cutting!!! Finally , somebody said it aloud !!! And it looks like the new breed of teabagger candidates agree!!! As long as they stay outta social issues , the midterms may end up being a good thing … Theyll never get enough support to impliment their fringy ideas , so all they really are is a thorn in the side of the status quo . The real retards in that movement didnt get elected . So here here teabaggers !!! Hazaa! Happy vday to dad, grampa, all my uncles … Basically every male in my family besides me ! And all the other vets on this board .

“…but the country cannot afford making the tax cuts permanent for those making more than $250,000 per year.”

anyone remember what that itemized tax breakdown looked like for those that make $250k/yr??? I see no reason for anyone to get married. You pay less if you aren’t. FIVE TIMES less.

      • eClownOmics says:

When the top tier was 90% there was only one person who actually paid that rate. The rest of the rich sheltered their money elsewhere.

    http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/10/unserious-people-2/

This idiot, and many of those who commented below his whining, are the reason we have the fiscal problems we do in this country. Immediately go straight to the third rail issue, say NO NO NO and toss out the entire report. Narrow minded, lunatic asshat. Try opening your mind just a teeny bit Krugman. This problem isn’t going to be solved with attitudes like yours.

“Oh, and they’re talking about raising the retirement age, because people live longer — except that the people who really depend on Social Security, those in the bottom half of the distribution, aren’t living much longer. So you’re going to tell janitors to work until they’re 70 because lawyers are living longer than ever.”

Apparently he didn’t even read the report, given that they recommend a hardship exemption for those who cannot work past 62. Idiot.

  • John Galt says:

Here is the draft report itself. Not sure why their illustrated savings report doesn’t include the changes recommended to SS.

    • 45Reverse says:

Scanned the SSA reforms on this…

      Non-starter for me:

There is ZERO discussion on allowing people to opt out.

There are at least 3 new benefits discussed along with at least 2 other proposals that would appear, on the surface to increase the number of people accessing benefits at any given time.

There is NO discussion what so ever regarding provisions that firmly prevent congressing from using SSA funds for any matters other than SSA.

Would need read it in more detail but on the surface, this proposal does not nearly do enough to curtail SSA expense.

      What do you think?

      • John Galt says:

There are good and bad points to the entire proposal, but hopefully it will start a dialogue. I agree the proposed SS reforms don’t go nearly far enough and leave a lot of open questions. What I don’t want to see happen is reactions like Krugman – nope don’t like extending retirement age to 68 – throw it all out. If we don’t have a national dialogue on this issue we are in some seriously deep guano.

  • MacGruber! says:

Happy Vets’ Day. BTW, is this the current topic or one just for today?

    • Cari says:

It’s a topic to honor our vets….but it’s business as usual it looks like. We aren’t arguiing over anything “veteran”…

  • John Galt says:

Nancy, this is exactly why it’s time for you to go. Go fork yourself you partisan hack! Respectfully.

Mr. President, on this we can agree – good words! Please make sure your actions match them, sir.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101111/ap_on_bi_ge/obama_asia

The proposals drew swift condemnation, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s conclusion that the ideas were “simply unacceptable.”

“If people are in fact concerned about spending, debt, deficits and the future of our country then they’re going to need to be armed with information about the kinds of choices that will be involved and we can’t just engaged in political rhetoric,” Obama said.

“If enough people come out and voice a little discomfort with the idea of her continuing on, maybe she would reconsider,” said the Pennsylvanian, one of a handful of Democrats who said he won’t cast a ceremonial vote for her.”

Are they so afraid of her that they have to wait for her to concede rather than have the nads to run someone against her and NOT vote for her?? what’s all this pansy “maybe she’ll stop, because we dont have the spine to tell her we dont’ want her”….???
